A characteristic of 20th- and 21st-century artistic production is that casual acquaintances and close intimates, friends, lovers, or sometimes even rivals come together to work collaboratively on the realization of a single work of art. Amitie et creativites collectives is focused on the genesis of these works and explores the conditions that contributed to the concentration and liberation of these creative energies. The Swiss artist MIRIAM CAHN (*1949, Basel) deals with political and social themes in oil paintings; charcoal, chalk, and colored and lead pencil drawings; and in photographs, films, and installations. Strong color is characteristic of her work, forming a stark contrast to the recurring motifs of violence, tenderness, war, destruction, and physical infirmity. Her habit of commenting upon her work in writing is a golden thread running throughout Cahn's career. She illuminates her own art, commenting in the process on art and world events, and she sets up the texts opposite her artworks in exhibitions and publications.

As artists, they were self-taught and created a cosmos of images that still captivates us today with its sensual immediacy and has made a lasting mark in art history on the work of non-academically trained artists: Henri Rousseau (1844-1910), Camille Bombois (1883-1970), Andre Bauchant (1873-1958), Louis Vivin (1861-1939) and Seraphine Louis (1864-1942). They are counted among the so-called circle of the "painters of the sacred heart"; their scenarios, often borrowed from nature, especially flowers and fruits, but also people in parks and landscapes, indicate a closeness to nature, a sensitive approach to the things of the immediate environment, with which they apparently sought to escape the coldness of uprising modernism.
These French pioneers of authentic art were discovered by the German art historian Wilhelm Uhde (1874-1947), who organized their first joint exhibition in Paris in 1928 -

Une étude sans précédent de la célèbre visite de Warburg en 1895 aux peuples Pueblo, compilant ses photographies, dessins, écrits et documents d'archives. Lorsque le grand théoricien et historien de l'art allemand Aby Warburg (1866-1929) partit pour les États-Unis en septembre 1895, peu de gens anticipaient que sa recherche des strates symboliques de l'art se révélerait si fondamentale dans le discours de l'histoire de l'art occidental. Le voyage de Warburg en Amérique du Nord n'a duré que quelques mois et son séjour dans les régions de Pueblo seulement quelques semaines, mais en 1923, il a présenté ses découvertes lors de la conférence révolutionnaire sur le "Rituel du Serpent" Hopi. À l'aide de photographies sélectionnées, de dessins ethnographiques et de divers documents d'archives, The Snake and the Lightning compile des recherches, montrant les divers interlocuteurs de Warburg au cours de ce voyage - des chefs aux missionnaires - et se concentrant particulièrement sur sa documentation des danses, des objets rituels et des oeuvres d'art. Que ce soit dans le domaine des arts visuels, de la littérature, du cinéma, de la science ou de la mode - dans les crises qui ont suivi la Première Guerre mondiale, la fascination pour les « types » a été largement influencée par un débat omniprésent à l'époque de Weimar : la recherche du « visage de l'époque ». Les gens étaient à la recherche de nouveaux modèles, et les portraits d'artistes de la Nouvelle Objectivité comme Otto Dix, George Grosz, Jeanne Mammen et Hanna Nagel en témoignent. Cependant, bon nombre des clichés, comme ceux de la « nouvelle femme » ou de la « travailleuse », continuent d'avoir une influence aujourd'hui. Plusieurs contributeurs en histoire de l'art, histoire médicale, études médiatiques et de sociologie proposent ici une enquête détaillée du contexte historique des années 1920 et des interactions complexes entre l'art et son époque. Une installation développée spécialement pour l'exposition de l'artiste contemporain Cemile Sahin, né en 1990, s'étend d'un arc à l'autre.

In 1921, Sanyu was among many Chinese artists who left his homeland to travel abroad to learn foreign ways. In Paris he enrolled at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, where he delved into the world of sketching nudes from live models. Drawing on his training in Chinese calligraphy, his ink drawings are characterized by a unique curvilinear certainty and fluidity. He started to paint in oil in 1929, under the direction of author and art collector Henri-Pierre Roché. In contrast to his drawing, here he preferred to reference images or memories from his youth and his rich cultural heritage. After World War II. he traveled to New York, where he became roommates and close friends with the Swiss photographer Robert Frank, and became influenced by the New York School. While he did not embrace abstraction, he borrowed elements that are evident in a diversified color palette. Sanyu returned to Paris in 1950, where his life was characterized by hopeful but false starts and debilitating failures. This catalogue raisonné is the first publication that includes all of his known oil paintings to date.

Georg Baselitz enters a dialogue with the Old Masters - invited by Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, the acclaimed German painter and sculptor engages in a visual conversation. Baselitz himself curated this selection of works, focusing exclusively on nude painting. Both the exhibition and the catalogue revolve around this elemental human state, and its fundamental role in European art.
From the beginning of his career, Baselitz's work has been informed by a pronounced awareness of art history, above all he was inspired by Mannerism's break with classical rules. Insights into the history of nude painting, as well into the topicality of painting itself, emerge from this encounter of Baselitz's works with historical paintings of an idealized beauty from Kunsthistorisches Museum. The carefully chosen juxtapositions open up a space in which one can reflect and experience the essence of painting anew. -

Sanyu: His Life and Works in Oil traces the life of the Chinese artist (1895-1966) from his early years in China and Japan, to his artistic experimentation and development in Paris and New York, ending in his tragic death, impoverished and forgotten. Today, however, Sanyu is one of the most coveted Chinese modern artists. An examination of his life reveals that it was precisely the polarities and tensions he experienced that spurred him to create a unique pictorial language that so dynamically integrated the spirit of Western modernity with centuries-old established Chinese traditions. Sanyu metamorphosed from a Chinese artist of the modern period to a modernist with Chinese cultural roots. These intersecting dynamics resulted in a hybridization previously unseen.

En 1969, Franz Gertsch a peint Huaa...!-qui montre un homme au galop sauvage à dos de cheval - d'après un film. Depuis, les photographies constituent la base de son travail. EIls comprennent des instantanés de la jeune famille Gertsch, photos d'un voyage dans le sud de la France, photos de ses rencontres avec Luciano Castelli et son éblouissant cercle d'amis, et des portraits de Patti Smith. Cette publication présente les principaux travaux des seventies, à la fois en vue intégrale et avec des détails en taille originale. Mise à zéro sur ces détails d'apparence presque abstraite révèle la qualité vibrante de la peinture avec ses surfaces chatoyantes. FRANZ GERTSCH (né en 1930) a fêté son 90e anniversaire en 2020. Avec sa participation à la documenta à Kassel en 1972, il a atteint une renommée internationale dans les courant des artistes Photoréaliste. Une exposition du Musée Franz Gertsch à coopération avec le LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz.

Longtemps ignoré, le peintre géorgien Niko Pirosmani fait l'objet d'une rétrospective à la fondation Van Gogh à Arles au printemps 2019. Quasiment inconnu hors de son pays natal, il fut exposé aux côtés de Kazimir Malevitch et Marc Chagall lors de la célèbre exposition Mischen à Moscou en 1913, où il est alors décrit comme « le Rousseau de l'Est ». C'est finalement via ses réalisations pour la publicité que ses oeuvres vont se diffuser auprès du public avant que sa peinture soit reconnue comme l'une des contributions majeures à l'art naïf.
