  Philosophie der Mode von Georg Simmel ist ein prägnanter Essay, der die Mode als soziales Phänomen analysiert. Simmel argumentiert, dass Mode nicht durch praktische oder ästhetische Notwendigkeiten entsteht, sondern ein Produkt sozialer Bedürfnisse ist.   Weiterhin diskutiert Simmel, wie Mode als nonverbales Kommunikationsmittel fungiert, das Informationen über Identität, sozialen Status und kulturelle Werte vermittelt. In einer sich ständig wandelnden Gesellschaft ermöglicht Mode den Individuen, sich in sozialen Strukturen zu orientieren und ihre Position zu definieren.
